Home Networking
Put very simply, home networking is when you have more than one computer in the house connected to the internet. It doesn’t matter what computers you have, you can mix and match PC’s and Macs and even share files and printers between them.
The most common situation is where you have one main computer and one laptop and it just becomes a pain to keep unplugging one to get the other on the internet. Networking the two behind a router is a quick and easy option, and when the router is wireless, you can use the laptop throughout the house. A router is a small box that handles your internet connection for you and allows more than one computer to connect to it effectively sharing your internet among your computers.
There are 2 ways to connect your computers
- Wired
- Wireless
It is usually not practical to go to the expense of installing data cabling throughout your house, unless you are going down the route of the smart home or installing whole house audio and video. The most common way of installing networks now is with wireless technology, and with the new technology having speeds equal to (and in some cases superior to) the traditional wired method, there is no decrease in speed either.
A wireless router such as the D-Link MIMO G624+ or the Netgear, which are both powerful and rigorously field tested by our technicians provide just the sort of service that is ideal for modern homes. Earlier versions of the wireless technology were plagued with problems due to the wireless signal being interrupted by microwave ovens, washing machines, wireless phones, thick walls and any number of other things the new version is infinitely better.
Wireless Security
Everyone has heard stories about hackers getting into peoples computers via an unsecured wireless connection. When we set up a wireless router you can be assured that we will configure it with the strongest security available for you and your families protection.
Networking on the move…..
An increasingly large number of us are using PDA’s, Blackberry’s, or smart phones, to receive our emails on the move, and with the advent of 3G technology finally arriving even broadband speed internet on the move as well! For those of you not familiar with the technology but keen to get involved, we can advise and set it all up for you as well.
