'Day of Knights and Night of Daze'
Have you ever thought of being a Knight? Or even what it is like to swing a sword, use a bow or have a bird of prey land on your wrist? Most of us have, at some point, daydreamed of such things but last year on the 23rd June, I took my mate Jamie for his Stag Do to the Knights of Middle England (www.knightsofmiddleengland.co.uk). It was something he wanted to do, so who was I to stand in his way?! Little was I to know how much fun we were to have......... few of us had ever sat on a horse, pulled a bow or swung a sword (and why would we?) but due to patient instruction and some very good horses, by the end of the day we were actually able to guide a horse with our knees and one hand while trying to poke someone else with a long blunt stick - it was amazing. Some of the instructors there were stage actors who taught us traditional swordfighting methods and routines, and had us practising until they were good enough to be both fun and believable. We had a competition towards the end of the day with points for the sword routines, ‘pig sticking', quintain striking and the gaining challenge (I'll let you work those out for yourself!) and the day was rounded off with archery, beer and a huge hog roast - and accommodation was even on site....

My idea was that as we had all enjoyed ourselves to the absolute limit, I would offer the experience to all the people I work with and for and see if I couldn't make it a bit of a regular event. Trust me, we were talking about it for weeks afterwards and it has to rank up as being one of the best weekends I have ever had. We may be able to do some falconry and staff fighting as well, depending on numbers.
Costs: £280 each (minimum 15), for the whole event which includes all drinks, a hog roast at the end of the day, accommodation and a cooked breakfast the following morning.
We are looking for a date in June/July, which is plenty of time to organise yourself, so please let me know your interest, and once the date is confirmed, a deposit of £140 will be required, balance 2 weeks before the confirmed date.
