South London Hoodie culture
22 March 2007

While Nathaniel was asking the questions about gang deaths in South London, Hoodie culture, and what someone has called a‘Clockwork Orange society’, I was busy doing research, trying to find out new facts that might help people to understand more and fear less about young kids today. There are two developments that might help. One is the Envision youth charity that has been set up by James Williams to help young people who are living in very poor urban areas and the other is from Demos, a thinktank that has put out a new report, called Start with People, and this report says people everywhere should play a more active role in what happens where they live and do more volunteering to help the kids they say they are so frightened of. Lots of people have more opinions on what is happening than ideas on how to put it right. It is nice to be able to mention two places where you won’t hear just talk, talk, talk, talk.
